Kratom: Dosages

Dosing kratom isn’t an exact science, and each individual’s own body chemistry can have a significant impact on the amount needed to get the desired effect. Similarly, dosing will vary widely based on the strain or ‘vein’ of kratom powder being used.

All that said, the following is a general guide and not intended to be advice or instruction on dosing kratom for your own personal use. Always discuss with a physician prior to starting any new health regiment.

Kratom Dosages and Effects

Generally speaking, lower doses of kratom tend to have an uplifting, mild stimulatory effect, while larger doses tend to have a sedating and calming effect.

2 Grams = Subtle but noticeable stimulatory and mood-boosting effects

2-3 Grams = Increased mood enhancement, mild stimulation and uplifting

3-5 Grams = A balance is had between euphoria, stimulation, sedation and pain management

5-10 Grams = Considered a high dose and not recommended for most people. At higher doses, most commonly users report euphoria, nausea, and sedating effects.

Factors that Can Affect Kratom Dosing

  • Age
  • Health
  • Medical conditions
  • Weight
  • Other medications or supplements
  • How it’s taken (i.e. with a meal, on an empty stomach, etc.)

Warning: Higher Doses May Equate to More Side Effects

As with any thing, moderation is key. Higher doses may result in varying, and sometimes desirable effects, but they can also undesirable effects. Excessive use has been known to cause stomach irritability, nausea, insomnia, and constipation for some people. Others may experience a rapid heartbeat or changes in blood pressure.

A lot is still unknown about kratom, and while more than 14.5 million Americans and tens of millions more around the world use it without adverse effect, that’s not to say caution shouldn’t be used.

Kratom: Learning How to Take It

Learning How to Take Kratom Powder: The basics

When it comes to kratom, the most popular way to purchase it is as a powder. Also known as powdered kratom, the greenish fine powder is made from grinding the processed leaves of the Mitragyna Speciosa tree, a tree indigenous to Southeast Asia.

Although powder offers a fresh, convenient, and easy way to take kratom, it is not without its downside, namely, its notably bitter taste. This makes preparation a challenge for newcomers who are uncertain about how to prepare their dose.

1. Make it a Mixer

Due to its natural bitterness, there are a few drinks that tend to blend well with kratom. Your first option is a favorite fruit juice. The sweetness of the juices balances out the bitterness of kratom. Bonus if you use any citrus juice with increased acidity as this can enhance the natural compounds in kratom that elicit its sought-after effects.

Aside from juice, the bitterness of kratom sometimes blends well with various preparations of tea or coffee, and is often a favored option for those who enjoy the natural bitterness of coffee and tea.

2. Incorporate Into a Snack

Similar to how ‘edibles’ are used with other psychoactive herbs, kratom powder can be easily baked into virtually any recipe. However, we suggest something sweet to counterbalance the bitterness. For this reason, chocolates, fudge, and bakery items such as cookies or brownies tend to be popular. In a pinch, mixing with peanut butter is also a fail-safe way to take kratom.

3. Tea Time!

With this method, we’re going ‘old school’. In fact, taking kratom as a tea was among the first ways it was consumed in the ancient tradition of SE Asian cultures. As a tea, workers in the region relied on Kratom-infused tea to ward off fatigue and enhance productivity at work.

Steps: Boil 1-cup of water, let it cool for approximately 30-45 seconds. Next, add your measured out kratom dose to your teacup or coffee mug. Gently pour the hot water over the powder. Let this sit for around 30-45 seconds before stirring. Now, stir until completely dissolved. From this point, you can add in your own blend of tea or tea bag, after which you’ll let that steep for between 3-5 minutes. Now is ready to drink!

4. Powder Packed Capsules

If measuring and weighing out doses isn’t your thing, or you need a more convenient way to enjoy kratom on the go or when out in public, kratom capsules might be just what you’ve been looking for. Premeasured, accurate, discreet and easy to take, kratom capsules offer many benefits.

Take the Dive and Enjoy Responsibly!

We hope you found this brief guide helpful. As a beginner with Kratom you should always consult your doctor prior to use, and start out slow. Everyone reacts differently, and you may need to do a little experimentation to find the right blend, dose and way to take it that best suits your lifestyle and needs.
